Repertory Club Draws Crowded Town Hall Audience
Local talent shone as the Repertory Club staged a well balanced program. The evening featured a choir under Mr. Walton, solos by Miss Roma Clarke, and sketches including Cafe Russe and A Strong Situation. The main one act play The Sword is Double Edged showcased Lou Barnacle and Ray Goodridge with strong performances.

Football umpire praises local match quality in Nelson
Umpire McMahon told Nelson Association secretary Ben Fisher after Sunday’s game that the football shown compared very well with Bunbury Collie and Tammin standards. He named player No 2 Bailey from Balingup as the best and fairest on the ground.

Bridgetown Club Re-elects President At Annual Meeting
The Bridgetown Club re elected G Warburton as president at the annual meeting held last Saturday night. Warburton has led the club since 1945 and is credited with establishing the current sound basis. R Wheatley was re elected vice president and all committee members were returned. The committee includes R Goodridge, R S Mester, G L Hester, H C Jeavis, J Kirby and Dr C F E Cook. Lieut General Sir Henry Willcox is named patron for the year. W L Gwen remains honorary secretary. The meeting also voted to buy the club premises and may pursue renovations to enhance appeal.

Billington Clinches Narrow Victory in Sunday Shoot
Doug Billington won a close shoot off after tying with Bentley on a possible 70. Tate and Billington each scored 66 off the rifle to reach a century spoon final but were unsuccessful. Next Sunday features a spoon shoot on the 509 and 600 yard ranges. A separate report notes Apple and Pear Marketing Board to raise by 1d per bushel on packed apples in W A and Tasmania for 1949, to be distributed as a surplus to growers.

Visiting Medicos in Bridgetown Brings Doctors and Guests
Over 60 doctors and their wives gathered in Bridgetown on Tuesday with 53 arriving by special train and the rest by tourist bus. They toured the district by car in the afternoon and attended a reception hosted by Drs. C. E. Cook and D. L. Gordon at Cook’s home. The special train departed Bridgetown around midnight for Busselton.

More than 100 women from Manjimup Donnybrook Greenbushes Balingup Busselton and Collie joined Bridgetown CWA for its 11th anniversary celebration. Mrs Keal founded the Bridgetown branch on August 8 1937 and Mrs C A Mackinnon was its first president.

Bridgetown Scouts announced two weeks of subscriptions totaling £1 1s for the United Nations Children’s Appeal. Scoutmaster H K Sandilands left for Perth and returned after attending a Scout Headquarters meeting. Mt Hawthorn Scouts are due to visit with a football match at 2 pm and a Sunday bus trip to Pemberton.
