Elder Smith and Co announces an imminent sale of 500 pigs. The notice lists stock and terms but provides limited details on date location or payment. Buyers are advised to contact the firm for full particulars and sale arrangements.
Market reports from Midland Junction note 197 better quality cattle yarded on Tuesday with firm values. On Wednesday 18 000 sheep and lambs were yarded as good quality grew scarce. woolly sheep fell 3 to 4 pence while shorn were 2 pence easier. Suckers declined 3. The drop followed lower ceiling prices and skin value decreases.
President R Urquhart, re-elected for another term, reports on progress of the Policy Pool. He cites support from State and Commonwealth departments, cooperation with the Road Board, and plans on hospitalisation, veterinary matters, school transport, railway service and local employment. The Pool can raise 1500 pounds by 10 year bonds.
A local meeting discussed finances from bond sales for a memorial park and a pool credit balance. Officers for the coming year were elected and plans covered road posts, public telephones, traffic rules, river reserve improvements, and a potential district hospital site with a population map.
Bridgetown holds Sunday services on the eleventh of August 1946 with Holy Communion at eight in the morning Matins at eleven in the morning and Evensong at seven thirty in the evening led by Rev. T Pelham Thorman
