Death of Mr David G Sturgigs of Boro Creek

Local obituary records the death of Mr David G Sturgigs aged about 78 at his home after two months bedridden. He leaves a widow and six children including Robert, David, Albert, Jeremiah, Mrs Croker and Mrs HocKey. Funeral was held on Thursday at Take Bathurst.

Big price for land at disposal sale in Jombaicumbene

At the disposal sale in the estate of the late Mr. B. Daly held last Saturday at Jombaicumbene by Mr. T. W. Draper land brought high bids. An adjoining block started at 16 an acre and rose to 10 7s 6d per acre before being purchased by Mr. J. J. Bourke. An annual lease and a special lease were sold with the freehold. A second 2 acre block sold for 3 per acre to Mr. Phil Stokes. The former public house site and land were bought by Mr. R. Keyte of Major's Creek for 133 10s.

Serious accident on Jew's bridge causes injuries

On Saturday afternoon a trap carrying Mr and Mrs T Moore and their daughter from Six-Mile Flat traveled over Jew's bridge in Wallace street north. A rotten plank in the centre gave way as the horse crossed, throwing Mrs Moore and the girl. Mrs Moore suffered a broken nose and rib bruises, remaining unconscious until they reached Miss Hurley's. Mr Moore regained control after the dash board incident. Mrs Moore left for medical care on Sunday.

A public meeting of graziers and others interested is convened for Thursday afternoon next to protest against the proposed fix ation of the price of meat.

New Award Set For Dressmakers Understate Workers Union

An award granted at the Women Workers' Union's instance covers dressmakers and underwear makers across the state. Employers may choose five or six day weeks with weekly hours not over 46 between 8 am and 6 pm, meal times excluded. Overtime is time and a half on ordinary days and double time on holidays. Wages vary by experience from 10s weekly for beginners with semiannual rises to two years, to 82s 6d for four or more years, plus other scales for cutters and presser staff. The award takes effect 14 days after 21 June and lasts two years.

Presentation marks Mr Johnsons departure from Jembaicumbene

Friday afternoon pupils and parents hosted a tea for Mr and Mrs Johnson at Jembaicumbene before their move to Mudgee district. Johnson led the local public school for about six months and exchanges with O’Brien. He expressed regret at leaving due to his wife’s health and his need to study for an exam. The ceremony featured Miss Maggie Murphy and Miss Mavis O’Brien. The guests sang and recited, then gave three cheers for the Johnsons and the front boys before their departure for new duties.

George Neilsen's Private Iandy Leave Cancelled

George Neilsen’s private Iandy leave in PGL 11 of la 2p 2%p parish Mongarlowe was cancelled for non fulfilment of labour conditions. Mrs. N Pile, winner of the frat prize in sock knitting at Braidwood, donated the prize money to the Farewell and Welcome Home Committee. An amount of 98 6d toil over from subscriptions to the last farewell was handed in to the committee.

Marriage of Joseph Kain and Dora Wart in Orange Blossoms

Last week Rev Father McDonnell officiated the marriage of Mr Joseph Kain to Miss Dora Wart youngest daughter of Mr Thos Wart of Gtony now Ferawarree Mrs Murphy acted as bridesmaid and Mr D Hart gave his sister away. After the ceremony guests attended a wedding breakfast and many cheques were given as presents. The couple left by car for Sydney for their honeymoon.
