Newcastle works plan new enterprises at Newscastle row
The annual report of the Broken Hill Proprietary Co outlines extensions at Newcastle works and new industries. A byproduct plant and a 500 ton daily pig iron blast furnace are under construction with a 12 month completion target. A modern duplex steel plant and a rolling mill for galvanised iron and tinplates are designed, with orders placed for material. The rod mill, wire plant duplication, and Wirenetting works advance, while new subsidiary industries and tire plate and steel tube manufacture are under consideration. Demand for steel products will keep the 28 inch mill busy for a year. Additional iron ore leases and two locomotives are purchased to support expanded operations.
