Bowen Coalfields Railway Appeal Urges Government Action
A Friday meeting in the Shire Pall Board Room with J Blane as chair discussed urging the Minister for Railways to accelerate the Bowen coalfields railway construction. They argued a railway would save 20 000 to 30 000 pounds monthly on coal supply, aid local smelting works, and create work for idle men amid meat and sugar season shifts. The motion, seconded by Wodehouse, passed and was to be sent to the Ministers for Railways Mines and the District. A financial report showed a credit balance of 24 18 and a special appeal for funds to advance league objectives was approved. The group adjourned to 8 December with plans to report fundraising progress.
