Fortnightly meeting of the actors held at School of Arts
The actors fortnightly meeting met on Tuesday July 31 1917 at the School of Arts. Present were Miss Mackenzie president Mesdames Turner Graham Blate Martin J Gillespie Maclean Minset E Boston Ramsey Eyles and Secretary M Girleve. An apology was received from Mrs Tebb. Minutes of last meeting read and confirmed. Correspondence included Brisbane secretary cheque for £8 0s 0d and 13s 3d taxation from Wangaratta Lodge and a Belgian medal submission note for Map Wells. Donations listed from McDoneld Wangaratta Lodge Lascelles Gillespie Marshall and others with proceeds from a card table and hand painted item. Various donated goods from members and schools noted. Resolved letters of thanks to head teachers and donors. Secretary reported sending a cheque of £64 2s 8d to Brisbane Branch from Red Cross Day. Workers and Wool-Workers groups named.

Letter from Acting Corporal Johnston in Mesopotamia
Correspondence from Bowen correspondent publishes a wartime letter dated 27/3/17 from Feluja on the Euphrates River. Johnston describes long furloughs, river patrols toward Bagdad, desert marches, artillery exchanges, and rough conditions including storms, dust, heat, and disturbances with Arabs, Armenians, and Jews. He notes shortages, wireless duty, and plans for revnlistment as he awaits duty in the area.
