Fodder Reserves Highlighted At South Coast Contest
In the Royal Agricultural Society’s conservation championship at Sysdhutyy the winner was Mr John Fleming of Balfron Rocky Hall. The Pambula Agricultural Society notes strong fodder efforts with seven acres under Tucerne and 15 acres sown to grasses and clovers. Fleming, a former Perthshire boy and war veteran, improved fodder stock, overtaking J A Machin of Pambula by one point. Balfron spans 720 acres near Towamba River with silos and a large hay shed, hosting dairy cattle from Retford Yaralla and Woodside bloodlines.

Government halts inquiries into pension relative contributions
The Commonwealth Government will discontinue inquiries into relatives' ability to fund old age and invalid pensions. A bill will be introduced when Parliament reconvenes to repeal parts of the Act with retrospective effect. Prime Minister Lyons said only a small percentage could contribute and the provision proved hard to administer and did little to reduce claims.

Wool market outlook from joint Australian conferences
The Farmers and Graziers Cooperative reports Sydney meetings of the Nations Council of Wool Sterling Brokers of Australia and the Australian Woolgrowers Council. They project 2,860,000 bales available for auction in the Commonwealth next season, with 1,400,000 bales to be offered before Christmas starting August 27. Carryover could be reduced if conditions permit. The clip may exceed last season but depends on weather and NSW rates. Prices are expected to firm, with 64s at 32d and Japanese demand improving in Brisbane and Sydney compared with Melbourne’s recent auctions.

Extracts from a holiday week in Sydney mix wit and wit
A collage of humorous vignettes and ironic observations from a reader’s letter column. Jests about Lady Godiva, a police sergeant’s son, Bradman, and an armistice quip mix with a Canberra bride pun and a dog tax tale. An inventive swagman tale notes frugal Australian ingenuity. Fat versus lean farm labor offers a regional labor opinion.
