Minstrel entertainment and sale events raise money for library

Floods Bring Heavy Rain and River Swell Across District
Light rain on Monday grew into a heavy downpour by midweek, flooding Bowbala and nearby areas. The Bowbala River rose over banks, flooding recreation grounds and destroying sheds while wrecking washing away a tanning shed. Shipping and telegraph services were disrupted as waters peaked, with multiple livestock losses reported near Cathcart and at local properties.

Private James Staples Rewarded In France For Gallantry
Private James Staples of Cooma returned by the Takada and arrived Tuesday. He left in 1916, served in France and Belgium until July 20, 1918, where he was wounded at Morlan court. He received the Croix de Guerre from France while at Monte Video camp near Weymouth. Brother Arthur Staples returned from the war about a year ago, another brother Reuben was at Liverpool training camp when the armistice was signed.
