Bowbala Band Reforms Aims For Local Engagements

After years of inactivity the Bowbala band is re formed with about fifteen players. Bandmaster JA Champion hon secretary H R Bryan and organizing secretary Boyce Dent lead. First practice last week showed progress as regular Wednesday meetings begin in the School of Arts supper room. The group seeks engagements for the Exhibition Society Show Oddfellows Sports and Hospital Carnival with outdoor concerts planned later and public financial support hoped.

Bibbenlujee cricket team shows improvement with win over Audo

From Our Own Correspondent: Bibbenlujee beat Audo by 14 runs on first innings. Club plans a second team as about 30 members compete. Report notes send off for Mr and Mrs Quarmby and thanks from Church of England heirs. Local sickness includes Mrs W Allen and Mrs Sterling Stewart. Mrs J E Bennett returns from hospital. A wedding at Aude Church unites Harold Cotterill and Miss Marie Preston with a reception at the bride’s home. Honeymoon planned for Pampula.

Shelving Change Planned for Main Pavilion

The P. and A. Society committee decided to alter shelving in the old part of the main pavilion. Myra Stewart won the Indies singles and Don Stewart won the gent's singles in the local tennis tournament. A thunder storm last Saturday brought 39 points of rain to the Post Office area with heavier rain in parts and none elsewhere. St Philips Church of England annual Snow Ball, held at the School of Arts last Friday, was very successful with snow themed decorations. the hall looked its best.

Wage reductions and revised rates take effect February and March 1931

A 10 per cent cut in basic wages applies from February 1 to February 28 1931 with weekly rates for elation hands listed and daily pay figures. From March 1 1931 a lower cost of living adjustment sets new weekly and daily rates for adults, boys of various ages, and shearers not affected by the initial cut.
