State Golf Champion Crowned in Fremantle Final

Mrs. W. Secombe of Bridge Town defeated Mrs. F. McQualter of Mt. Lawley to win the West Australian women’s championship at Royal Fremantle over 36 holes. Secombe also won the State foursomes and was runner-up in the country championships.

Bond Holders Meet To Approve Land Sale For Fire Station

The Advancement Policy Pool will hold a bond holders meeting on October 16 to approve selling a Memorial Park land block for a Bridgetown fire station. The Fire Brigade Board applied for the land at an estimated £100, with a future valuation planned. Some bond holders have left the district or WA, possibly donating bonds back.

Death of Alexander Linto in Bridgetown

Bridgetown residents mourn the death of Alexander Linto of Phillip Street after an operation at Royal Perth Hospital last Monday. He was a well known figure and his funeral was held the previous Wednesday. His wife and family receive deep sympathy from friends.

Two properties near Boyup Brook are set for sale by Elder Smith and Co. on Monday October 2. E A Campbell offers 790 acres six miles east of Boyup Brook with a river frontage. C R and M C Doust offer 360 acres two miles west of town. A September 29 dispersal sale of R B Davies’ former holdings will occur after transfer to the Land Settlement Board, and on September 28 fittings and stock are to be sold at Mrs Forth's Bridgetown shop.

Nelsons Carnival Prospects Face Warren at Capel

Nelson prepares for a tough Capel test against Warren in the 1950 South West carnival. Henry Owen Moore of Bridgetown was found to lack a current driver's license following an August 5 accident. He was fined £1 with 4 costs by acting R M R P Rodriguez in Bridgetown Police Court, prosecuted by Sergeant J Nicholls.

Bridgetown Show poised to set record in 62nd event

Governor Sir James Mitchell to open the Bridgetown Agricultural Society show on Friday November 10 at 2 30 pm. The 62nd show promises record prize money, classes and variety with more cattle pens and several new exhibitors. Earthworks at the show ground lag due to wet conditions but catering will be handled by Bunbury staff. Parking, side show sites and trade exhibit terrace have been improved over last year.

Greenbushes and Balingup road boards receive complaints from ratepayers over road damage caused by timber trucks. Barrufi Pres has agreed to refund grading costs on Fuchanans River Road in Balingup. Officials traced population changes in Balingup over 15 years affecting tobacco allocations. Secretary R. Darling found early figures inflated. a 1940 local survey put population near 967, with 1945 census at 1147. Despite lower base numbers since 1939, no tobacco ration rise appeared likely.
