Football Nelson vs Warren at Bridgetown opens a busy weekend. B Grade hockey semi finals at Manjimup. Golf features include mixed foursomes Saturday, men’s foursomes Sunday, and women’s captain versus vice-captain midweek with an open day for ladies. Shooting targets over 500 and 600 yards.
The Roy Doust trophy was won in the A grade by R Lindsey two up with R Stevens square. B grade winner was W White two up over Brandenburg and Rooke eight down. Next week mixed foursomes run Sept 10 and Sept 11 opens with a ladies day and B.D.G.A. men’s foursomes at Manjimup.

Yarding at Elder Smiths sale had about 350 cattle sold with full clearance at satisfactory prices. Five hundred sheep sold at firm values on late rates.

An eleven year old, Brian Woodhead, learned to start and operate a bulldozer under his father Mr L Woodhead's supervision. He drove three machines during earthworks at the Bridgetown sports ground, working day and night during fine weather. The project, with 8000 cubic yards of gravel and loam to place, advances apace and aims to create a premier state sports ground with grandstand and stables layouts finalized.
At the Bridgetown Junior Farmers meeting held Thursday about 18 members attended. They voted to donate £1 1s to the Clinic for the popular baby and discussed show day arrangements including hiring a Perth marquee for the Junior Farmers section. Roy Bolton praised the debating team while Joan Bentley resigned as club reporter and assistant secretary. A Memorial Building Fund letter was considered but no action taken.
Vacuum Oil Company Pty Ltd will subsidise returned servicemen and women employed in approved Commonwealth Reconstruction Training Courses for each subject successfully completed. The policy, approved by the board, covers expenses not included in the Government scheme. Applies to examinations passed from July 1 1949 with a maximum payment of £10 per year.
At a Bridgetown RSL sub branch meeting Mr W Dusting urged stricter action against traitors and communists. He cited postwar leniency in small court proceedings and called for harsher sentences and renewed discipline by delegates to the State Congress.

The A Grade foursome was won by Mrs Salvair and Mrs Thorn with a net 1. The B Grade champions were Mrs Dixon and Mrs Ancock with net 73. Next Wednesday caps and vice-caps loom while Sunday hosts open handicap foursomes with district clubs represented. The Southwest Districts LADies Golf Association funds a championship prize. 18 holes morning 9 afternoon with prizes for both 18 and 9 hole rounds. Luncheon and teas at the Club House. Bunselton Boyup Brook Bunch and Manjimup clubs travel as Bridgetown hosts hope for more entrants. The Golden Egg advertises a £3000 No 601 Charities Consultation prize.
The Superintendent of Dairying announces Bridgetown Grade Herd Beare Scheme quarter results for July 31. The Bridgetown unit averaged 694 lbs milk 4.26 per cent 29.58 lbs butterfat from 263 cows. Top herd figures list J C Williams W S Gregory D Pearce with counts of cows milks tests and fat percentages.
