Bridgetown officials clash over erecting pig sale yards in a residential area. Health Commissioner Dr Cook warns against approval and urges a by law. council members seek ratepayer support and consider shifting yards with compensation concerns.
Deputation in Perth reported that the Railways Engineer pledged to take up with the Commissioner the plan to shift the touching yards at Totnes and marshal yards. The engineer expected work to start within 12 months and a site further north was deemed unlikely due to cost. The board debated calling a public meeting of ratepayers while considering a by law and compensation for moved yards. A committee was formed to investigate river site options and report back at the next meeting.
Bridgetown hosts a multi event fair with trotting races, raffles, and a parade. Exhibitors compete for a president’s trophy across horse, cattle, sheep, and dairy classes with prizes donated by local figures.
At an October 26 public meeting by the Upper Blackwand Road Board a provisional committee was appointed to study a community hotel for Boyup Brook. The plan follows a timber milling boom and town amenities expansion. Dr M W Williams and C Astley Williams provided insights on community activities and potential sites. A health Civic Center, training rooms, and recreation-ground upgrades were discussed. a further meeting will review the committee's report.
