W. Sculs Football Carnival Aims For Bunbury In September

At a Bunbury Football Association meeting on April 30 the South West district proposes a multi sport carnival for schools. Floats of football hockey and basketball will tour to Bunbury for billeting with inter school events in Collie Busselton and a Bunbury based athletic carnival on October 27 drawing squads to Perth and Hobart finals.

Bridge town Hospital Board appeals for a Sunday working bee at 9.30 a.m. to clean the hospital grounds. More land has been cleared recently and a little more attention will improve surrounding appearance. Bring shovels rakes and suitable implements.

Bright Seasonal Prospects for South West Farmers

Heavy April rains boosted crop prospects across the South West. Bunbury recorded 359 points, the third heaviest April rainfall since 1927, with 1949 the record April at 424. Butter output rose 20 percent week ending April 21, aiding dairy and potato sectors as growers foresee a record crop if rain continues. Potato growers in Benger anticipate their best crop in ten years and plan to start digging this week, with timely rains deemed crucial to prevent losses.

Season Opens at Bridgetown Golf Club

The golf season starts tomorrow in Bridgetown with a mixed foursome over 19 holes at 1 15 p m. Club members led by Mr Stanley Wheatley improve the course, while Mr A Wheatley harrows and top dresses fairways. Club fees rise to £4 4s for men and £2 2s for women with donations pledged.

Timber Hauling Tragedy Claims William Wishart

William Wishart aged 23 died after a timber hauling accident near Manjimup. While dragging timber with a tractor a sapling struck his head forcing it into the tractor’s metal. his brother in law Albert Simcock found him and the tractor stopped after breaking a fence. He died at Warren Hospital late that night. Funeral held Monday with Rev A H Tassell officiating at the cemetery. Pallbearers were F Muir Muir and Middleton.

Jubilee Holiday on Wednesday

Wednesday next will be observed as a Jubilee holiday to commemorate the foundation of the Commonwealth of Australia. This holiday is in addition to holidays prescribed by awards or determinations, being an additional paid holiday for this year only.

Handbag Returned After Month In River
