Concern Over New Hospital Charge Scheme in Boyup Brook

The secretary read Department of Public Health circulars about a May 1 start for the new hospital charge scheme. The Lower South-West Hospital Boards Association voiced alarm, warning social service contributions may fail to cover costs and that government collection could replace local charitable work. The meeting also noted an unfinished electrical contract causing staff inconvenience and urged urgent action by the department. The next visiting committee will be R. C. Fraser and H. N. Farrall. Apologies from Donnybrook. Donnybrook to join Nelson association and enter two teams. Additionally, social notes mention Frank Harding visiting, Neville Bull traveling to Perth, and Mr. and Mrs. G. Welcome Social Welcomes New Methodist Minister

The welcome social for the new Methodist minister was well received with a packed church. Rev. A. Meyer led the event while Mr. Fawell was greeted by church treasurer Theo Bickford and representatives from Mayanup Wilga Sunday School Boy Scouts and the Ladies' Guild. Performances included several soloists and duets, and supper was served by the Ladies' Guild.

Scout Meeting and Hockey Delegates Gather in Greenbushes

John Broadhurst broke his collar bone after a fall from his father’s tractor, with sympathy sent to his daughter Mrs. Dewhurst. Scouts met in the old school with Mr G Jones welcoming Mr Fawelly as an assistant. Hockey delegates gathered at Greenbushes on April 22 with attendance from Nannup Kirup Balingup and Boyup.

Cinderella Ball Hockey Club Ballot Night Highlights and Winners

Nearly 300 guests attended the April 26 ball featuring the Cinderella and Prince Charming competition judged by a panel. Winners were Miss Elaine Montgomery and Mr. David Miller from Boyup Brook, with many visitors noted among the dancers and a parade of named attendees in colorful gowns and furs.

Girl Guide Notes Welcomes New Leader and Anzac Observance

Our new lieutenant Miss Fay Smith of Dinninup joined Guides on Wednesday. Nuryan Kent welcomed her and spoke. A rehearsal for the Anzac Day service and wreath laying by Rachel Broadhurst and Nuryan Kent followed, with Mrs Farrall making the wreath.

Bridgetown Hockey Wins Behind Warren Hat Trick

Bridgetown opened the hockey season with a 3–0 win over Jardee. Elsie Warren scored all three goals in her final match for the club before relocating to Perth. Captain Joan Moyes did not present Warren with a farewell.

Annual Meeting Of Ladies' Golf Club

At the annual general meeting the ladies urged members to renew subscriptions early as the club now has a licence and needs funds. Miss Freda Taylor was thanked for treasurer work and thanks were given to those who helped at the previous day’s working bee. Miss Pam Smith will join the general committee replacing Mrs Calanan. The motion to lengthen the seventh tee was defeated. The president Mrs V A Doust the captain and secretary Mrs D Palmer will form the trophies committee.

Memorial Service Color Guard Patterned by Youth Groups

Behind the soldiers brownies and scouts marched to the hall front where the service was held. Guides laid a wreath while two brownies Eay Brown and Moya Hester laid their wreaths. The service was impressive and concluded with the National Anthem as the color platoon marched away.

Tragic Timber Truck Crash Kills Two Near Pearton

Two men, William Hewitt and Edward Jones, died when a loaded timber truck collided with a stationary locomotive at Collins Crossing near Pearton on April 24. The impact crushed the cab, derailed three loaded wagons, and tore up 100 feet of track. Fathers and communities in Northcliffe and Walpole mourn as inquiries proceed.
