First Morning Anzac Day Service Observed

Radar Brain Gun Planned by Scientists

Scientists develop a radar device intended to detect and destroy enemy missiles. The system links with a British gas battery to locate silent shells and measures speed direction and feel. It traces the missile path back to the gun and automatically targets that gun within seconds.

Missionary Exhibition Showcases Global Cultures in Town Hall

In Bridestown on a Tuesday afternoon April 28, M N S Whussum announced a missionary exhibition at Town Hall. Archdeacon Freeth outlined the work, saying the mission is to show God’s love and teach Christianity. Exhibits include Aboriginal Melanesian Japanese Chinese Burmese Malay New Guinea displays, each run by a named missionary. Exhibits feature a 400 year old Chinese ivory sceptre, Melanesian craftsmanship, and a primitive weapon, with talks on regions by team members who have lived there.

Late Mr J J McAlinden remembered in Bridgetown obituary

The community mourns J J McAlinden a longtime Bridgetown road board member and Druid member who died from heart trouble on a Sunday. Born in Busselton he lived part of his youth there before settling in Bridgetown with wife Ellen and their daughter Mrs Frank Clarke. He was on the packing shed at Trinamano and previously worked with Paterson and Co. at West Packing Shed retiring only days before his death. He leaves Mrs McAlinden and their daughter.

Repertory Club Social Highlights at Bridge Town venue

Alexander Hedgson led a Bridge Town Repertory Club social with Margaret Leaver organizing. The program included National Anthem, piano accordion solos by Rosalyn Hobbs, sketches like Forever and Ever, Rest and Be Thankful, a Run Dance, and Shades of Shakespeare. Cast featured Leaver, Williams, Michell, Hodgson, Rafferty, Williamson, Bolton, and Chapman's troupe. Community singing and a buyer served.

Hall gave an enrollment speech as guides sang, recited, played piano and demonstrated guide laws. Bridgetown A grade women’s hockey defeated Pemberton two goals at Jardee on Bat Sunday. Bridgetown scorers were Mrs. W Thompson and Mrs. L Kurls. Milly M Kelly scored for Pemberton. Bridgetown B grade formed from mostly schoolgirls. next week Bridgetown hosts Manjimup at One Bridgetown sports ground.

Reception to Treasures at Bridgetown Road Board

The Federal Treasurer Sir Arthur Addison will be given a reception in Brideswell on Saturday at 10 40 am. He departs Briderlong at 12 30 pm and will lunch with Upper Blackwood Road Board members at Boyup Brook at 1 pm. He returns to Perth by 2 pm accompanied by Mr Thora MLA.
