Bridgetown Road Board decided Friday to buy a Fordson Malcolm Moore grader funded by next year’s loan. A £1000 deposit will be paid from general revenue and recouped from the loan. Mr C P Scott suggested dual rear wheels. Mr M F Scott proposed a 10 year loan across all wards.
At a Bridge Town Fruitgrowers Association meeting Reg Hes ter, member of the South West Zone Development Committee, urged larger government action against codlin moth. He argued that a £500,000 allocation would yield far greater savings for the government in the long run.
A fortunate accident occurred on Monday on the property of Mr E C Doust when a bush fire burned through ringbarked suckers he planned to burn later. A spark from his tractor started the blaze fanned by a strong wind. About twenty helpers fought the fire, keeping it under control as it burned through Tuesday and was allowed to burn out.
In Bridgetown district debate on fruit fly in citrus and oranges. Mr Flintoffsenior suggests a 90 percent yes vote to remove trees in production areas to protect fruit. Mr Herlihy declares local fruit condemned in Perth and urges action with the Agricultural Department to eradicate the fly.
General Rankin asked when funds would allow fumigants and ammunition to reach Australia for rabbit destruction. Commerce Minister Pollard said delivery dates depend on firms ordering from the U.S.A. Delays occur if orders aren’t placed promptly. goods arrive once shipped and transported to Australia.

Dr. Cook Commissioner for Health toured Great Southern and South West districts and urged Bridgetown and nearby road boards to appoint a joint health inspector for health and sanitation. Bridgetown undecided while Balingup already has inspector R Darling. Other boards to be contacted.
Bushfires hindered progress in the Bridgetown Bowling Club pairs competition begun last weekend. Several members fought fires, while the event continues Saturday. Local teams from H. C. Jones, Evans, Bentley, W. Bazeley, Mikward, and singles player E. H. Pearce competed in Harvey events, with Jones and Evans reaching pairs quarter finals and Balingup’s Jenkins and Bailey winning the pairs.
The Bridgetown cricket season ends with curtailed fixtures after a Monday meeting. The final will be played Sunday at Sunnyside with Railways facing the top two clubs, Bridgetown and Greenbushes, to decide minor honours. A Bailwe appeal over the March 5 Greenbushes match was heard but did not alter finals.
