Queen's Visit Holiday Impacts Bridgetown Post Office

The Bridgetown post office will close all day for a Queen’s visit holiday. Telegrams require trunk line fee plus telegraph charges, and usual mail closing is 10:30. On March 30 mail closes at 3 pm and Perth mail runs late around March 28 due to changed conditions.

Funeral for Bridgetown Three Boys Draws Large Crowd

Bridgetown held a quiet morning as business closed and over 1000 residents gathered at the Methodist Church for the joint service of three dead boys. More than 200 cars formed the funeral procession and 1000 additional mourners filled Bridgetown Cemetery. The Rev Wilbury led the service with Rev Wy conductors and a floral tribute from the South West organization.

Delegates Attend CWA Rally at Fonty’s Pool

About 100 delegates attended the CWA rally at Fonty’s Pool. The meeting featured reports from Mrs. Williams of Dinninup and Mrs. A Tubhill of Yarra, plus motions to hold a handicrafts school in Busselton in May. A guessing competition was won by Mrs. M Smith of Ba Prine.

Tribute to Mrs Dakin A Lifelong Bridgetown Figure

The late Mrs M J Dakin arrived in Bridgetown in 1902 from Melbourne and helped found the Bridgetown Red Cross branch. A longtime St Pauls Guild member, she supported Cher work, agricultural shows, and Royal Show exhibits. An expert wood carver and trained elocutionist, she was admired by friends as an accomplished lady who lived to age 53.
