Debutantes Presented at CWA Ball

Debutantes entered in a formal hall setting at a CWA ball with Miss Lorna Walsh leading, followed by twenty others in varied dresses. Flowers, veiled by jacaranda decor, framed the stage as Mrs. Briggs and a committee trained the girls for the Pride of Erin waltz.

Power House Takes Shape In Bridgetown

A new power station near Bridgetown shows rapid progress from a wood heap to a solid surface with concrete foundations for dynamos. Supervisor R J Perry notes ongoing work despite rain, aiming to finish foundations by June. The plant will upgrade voltages to 440 and 250, with future lines to Manjimup and possibly Collie. G Randell, longtime light supplier, handed over to the State Electricity Commission.

Pack-out Prospects Improve For Bridgetown Apples

Bridgetown sheds report higher pack-out prospects than expected with 250000 cases of apples and 10000 of pears shipped so far. If current pace holds, total will run about two thirds of 1949 levels, aided by good quality apart from sunburn and small size and no hail this year.

Veterinary surgeon needed in Bridgetown

A public meeting was proposed to recruit a veterinary surgeon for Bridgetown with a guaranteed £1000 yearly subsidy. Government aid was ruled unavailable under the Civil Services Act, so farmers discussed funding via a levy on butterfat and per-farmer payments to reach the sum. The Farmers' Union largely opposed the scheme, and a 50 50 split was debated before planning further inquiry.

The raft carrying B S Pearce Ken Nye and divers mate L Boon uses a drum frame with limited movement space as a pump is placed. The deepest diver known worked at 240 feet and only minutes can be spent per descent due to hard breathing. The 13 feet of water is a shallow dip for Rum. The intake pipe Korf sits at 160 feet, aiming to improve water clarity against discolored water.
