Tuberculosis Allowances Plan Announced For July Start
The Minister for Health Sir Earle Page announced on July 3 1950 that a new tuberculosis allowances scheme designed by the Menzies Government would operate from July 18 1950. First payments will be made on that date. Rates include £6 10s weekly for married sufferers with dependent wife and £3 12s 6d for others reduced to £2 12s 6d if no dependants in hospital. An extra 8d weekly per dependent child under 16, means testing based on income, and allowances cease when earnings reach the top rate.
