Bridgetown Road Board backs heavy grader over corrugations

Discussion centered on corrugations at the Bridgetown Road Board meeting. McAlinden urged grading with a heavy grader to flatten dust filled ruts, while the secretary said the machine is tied to construction work unless directed. A demonstration with a road patrol was planned by January 27.

Two Arms Broken On Saturday In Rabbit Poisoning Accident

Jimmy Katinkavitch employed by Warburton Bros. was injure in a rough country raid while poisoning rabbits on land adjoining the Thomson home. Thrown from a cart he sustained two broken arms and was taken by ambulance to Bristal. The call came from a trotting ground 18 miles from Bridgetown.

Bridgetown Motor Cycle Club Formed in Convent Hall

A Tuesday meeting in Convent Hall leads to the formation of a Bridgetown motor cycle club aimed as a touring social group while promoting road safety. J Kirk elected president A Thain vice president and R Blythe secretary treasurer. A Sunnyside run and a slow race won by R Blythe are reported along with swimming and tennis. The next meeting is at G Wilson's show in Steere street at 10 30 a m on Sunday February 10.

Manjimup Trotting Carnival Preparations In Full Swing

Secretary Stan Bond has arranged a Trotting and Log Chopping Carnival in Manjimup on Saturday January 19. Forty eight horses have been nominated including newcomers from Kojonup and entrants from Narrogin Perth and other towns. The event features 46 entrants in five heats and a final with racing and chopping actions under veteran axe man W Handmer. Transport by bus routes will run to Manjimup with a publican's booth afternoon tea cool drinks and a five shilling gate.

Destiny Wins South-West Derby in Narrow Nose Finish

Destiny edge General Heather and Ann Kay by a short nose in a tight South-West Derby after a fast pace on a small track. Ginger Nelson won the Nelson Handicap for Wally Walton in a seven-horse field, with Royal Reserve and Van Boy far back. In the Yarnup Mile General Heather led from start to finish as Abbey's Fancy and Star of Lying challenged.

In Bridgetown on January 10 the parish and Railway Association hosted a farewell in Convent Hall for Mr. and Mrs. Briggs, Mr. and Mrs. Banks, and Mr. Finnon recently transferred to other depots. Speakers praised their service while gifts were exchanged. the evening included music and a late National Anthem.
