Bridgetown Bowling Club hosted a packed Town Hall dance as 1950 dawned. New Year greetings chalked on shop windows and humorous road markings dotted the town. Corner carts stood on Steere and Hampton Streets while Sunnyside sports and Mayanup races drew crowds and wireless listening, making Bridgetown’s New Year an entertainment-filled start.

Pioneer Orchardist Kammann Dies in Tragic Orchard Fire
The celebrated farmer Mr Kammann died after attempting to douse a small grass fire at Finbury in the Warren district. He had built a large apple operation on 80 acres and was known as a capable, industrious Mason. Survived by his wife and four children, his funeral at New Balbarrup was well attended.

Noted Bowler Dies On Green
Mr. Gildford Clarke father of Mrs. Jessie Gregg of Bridgetown, longtime state bowling figure, collapsed on the Man y afternoon while in the jubilee singles, dying before a doctor arrived. He led the Jubi lee singles, had 11 years as secretary of the W A Bowling Association, and earlier excelled in lacrosse and cycling. He was a South West carnival regular visitor and supported Bridgetown events. Sincere sympathy goes to Mrs. Gregg, his wife, and four children.

Sunnyside sports day draws big crowd and lively prizes
A large crowd enjoyed Sunnyside events with children prize money threepence and adults racing races won by Frank Muir in the hitting the wicket and steer riding sections. Big fire at Sunnyside devastates Bridge town district

Registration Plates Held For 36 Years
Manjimup history honors the WA.1 plate kept by the Rose family since 1912 when the first car arrived. Richard Rose, Wilgarrup breeder and heir to the original owner, just registered a new Stylemaster Chevrolet utility, delivering via Thompson's Garage. The plates are heavily moulded aluminium, acquired in 1928 and used continuously.
