The Flax Production Committee advised the Minister to raise the standard straw price from £9 to £18 10s a ton and to lift the harvesting bonus from 10s to 15s a ton. If approved the top price with bonuses could reach £36 18s per ton for flax growers, with implications for labor and machinery costs and for the Blackwood Flax Co-op.
A fire at 5 o clock Tuesday morning behind the SEC powerhouse destroyed a large quantity of wood and 3 staging, with rebuilt structures needed. The exact amount of damage is not disclosed, and this marks the third fire in twelve months.

He came to Western Australia at 17 and later settled in Bridgetown. An obituary will follow with more details.
