Killed in Action Leading Seaman Fred Heywood
The family of Leading Seaman Fred Heywood, long in the Royal Navy, received word he was killed in action in the South Pacific. He had just visited his family in Greenbushes after 19 years apart and leaves a wife with two children in England and his parents and siblings in this State. He planned to transfer to the Australian Navy upon rejoining, aiming to bring his wife and children to Australia.

Death of Private Percy Lilley in German POW camp
The Lilley family of Bridgetown mourns Pte Percy Lilley who died while a prisoner of war in Germany. Enlisted with the A.S.F. he served overseas, was captured in the Middle East, and held in German custody for years after spending much of his life in Bridgetown and Bunbury where he worked before enlistment. He was a keen footballer in association matches.
