Mr Farquhar reports heavy cockatoo damage across two hundred Yates trees with about 150 fruit remaining from last year’s 473 cases. He planned guards but birds returned and destroyed remaining apples, with 70 on one branch and 30 left. He estimates losses and calls for a bonus to curb vermin.
Last Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Len Gates entertained Verna Gates and guests at their home. Attendees included the Vittorio and Crombie families, the Goddards, Prendergasts, Halbrooks, Warner, the Smiths, and several locals. Pat Crombie vacationing with parents at the school house. Aubrey Bovell visiting. Mrs. Freda Perks returned from Perth. Verna Gates departed by bus to the metropolis to resume duties.
Bridgetown will mark Anzac Day with a 2.30 pm parade led by marshal Rowan Robinson, moving along last year’s route to the town hall where a 3 pm service begins. Wreaths, two addresses by F. H. Long and Sir Henry Wilcox, and hymns led by the Bridgetown Repertory Club are planned, with local groups invited to participate. Dawn service set for 6 am precedes the day’s events.
The Returning Officer E C Riebeling declared Mr John Hearman elected after final counts shown Wednesday night. Final results list Hearman 2284 and Smith 2078 votes.
The Bridgetown Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary report a successful street stall last Friday realising almost £30 to fund comforts and amenities for patients. Prizes went to Dave Wilson for nylon stockings John Faithfull for a fowl and June Wheatley for a cake. The president Mrs V A Doust thanked all donors and contributors including cash givers Mesdames R E Doust Davidson Bagshaw Randell M E Wilkins Hodgson Zinnecker and a special thanks to Mrs Gunn.
Mr. Guy Thomson, 20 years as chair with one year off due to ill health, is a J.P. and leader in regional and Liberal circles. He chairs the South West Road Board Association, sits on the state executive, leads the Greenbushes Liberal branch, and has ties to the Blackwood district. Born in Bridge Town, educated at Hale School, he farms dairying, orchard and fat lambs and will marry Miss Cecily Werbhurton in Perth on April 22.

In Boyup Brook Police Court on March 31 J s P Bozo Kraplja of Jayes Road Bridgetown faced a charge of supplying liquor to natives. Constable J Healy produced the case before magistrates E A Miller and H N Farrall. He was fined £25 with costs of £2 2s 6d or seven days imprisonment in default.
Warriors and Boyup fielded many players with many halves played and uneven training. Veterans Prastidis Faithfull Armstrong Rankine for Warriors and Bill Paterson Maclean Whitton Brookmann for Boyup standouts. McKinney Pellham and Tanner shine for Warriors. Paterson Paterson Hughes Banting notable for Boyup. Final score Warriors 6.7 Boyup 2.3, pace uneven but promising signs.
The bus Miss Warren was destroyed last Saturday night in Manjimup. Passengers Mrs Joan Lamb and driver Mr Douglas Muir were taken to Bridgetown District Hospital and are recovering satisfactorily. Mr G Lamb sustained burns while helping others and praised the driver for his actions during the blaze.

Janet Meredith daughter of Mr and Mrs I H Meredith won a medal for the highest marks in Trinity College Examination in Junior Music up to age 14. She studies at Bridgetown Convent with her music teacher and the sisters proud of her, with prior awards and promise of a high place in music locally and beyond.
