Beginning Friday April 3 a stage will depart Birtle on Mondays and Fridays at 7 a m to connect with the M K and N W Railway trains at Minnedosa.
The article recalls four decades of migration along the C P R route into Shoal Lake, Bird Tail and Shell rivers. It argues new settlement will rise with the railway, boosting land values, farming, manufacturing and lumber markets while noting limits to town growth near the Riding Mountains and Assiniboine valleys.
A large Dominion Day gathering in Birtle brings together white settlers from across provinces and counties with Indigenous people. The event features diverse outfits, flags, and festive games amid general happiness. An accident injures two Indians when a stallion rears into the crowd. doctors attend to the wounded while camp followers offer aid.
First race features mile heats with two in three open to all offering 75 dollars to the winner and 25 to the second. Entries include Maggio mare, Alexis Tanner s h, King George, Gen Middleton, and others. Second race for native ponies offers 15 dollars to top finishers with multiple ponies named. Third race for Indian ponies includes several sprint events and place prizes. Various field events list winners such as R. Menzie in multiple events and D McDonald in sack and wheelbarrow races.
A lively tug of war drew a large crowd with eager cheers for both sides. The contest lasted several minutes and ended with E. Irish and his team defeating opponents led by Thomas Badger.

Harris urges publication for settlers facing taxation and warns potential refunds if municipalities must repay taxes, funded by levies on the same lands post patent.
