The Birtle area prints church notices for St George’s Church with service dates and times, a social at Mrs Lane’s, and oyster sales. It reports on local builders, railway agents, timber and coal findings, and new residents. It also notes mission sermons, a parish concert raising 346, and county court cases over neighbor disputes plus seed grain concerns and thistle control.
The Portage extension plans were rejected for lack of M and N railway connection and the risk of two crossings. A reappearance of the matter is set for the 26th with hopes to clear the difficulties. Work on the extension has begun and the movement may be more show than progress this season. St George's church will have no Sunday morning service but evening service proceeds. The Fort Whyte diamond awaits proper appliances before installation.
Provy our Correspondent notes a cold week with 26 below last Sunday. Wheat arrivals are plentiful with a high price of eighty five cents. Mr. Bucknall of Mitchell and Bucknall visited town recently. The tank building and round house are being ornamented by painting. Men and teams are leaving this area to work in the bush for Mr. Tait.
Notice that Oswald Darnley Inman of Binsearth Russell County assigns all estate to the undersigned for creditors. Creditors must file certified claims with valuation by February 16 1880. First meeting of creditors to be held at the undersigned’s Winnipeg office January 16 at 3 PM.
