FOR THE WESTERNFAMILYSCOTTSDALE DAILY PROGRESS Wednesday, October 4,1961 Page 13MARY - GO ■ ROUNDVolunteers Work At Re-Arranging Library SystemBY MARY SVEA HAYNSWORTHValiant volunteer members of the Scottsdale Library worke all day Sunday at a labor of love . . . “operation charge-out which inaugurates a delightfully simple, mechanical system of checking out books.The group of special volunteers who were responsible for the “reading of the shelves” had to replace 13,000 new cards in the processing of the same number of books ... a giganticjob.Next time you borrow a book there, peek at the new cards, which are now going to auomatically register “in” and “out.” Few will realize the detail involved in the change of process.The busy day ended on a high note, when volunteers and their husbands had a pot-luck dinner at the Scottsdale home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Knowles.Mrs. Knowles, also a volunteer, somehow managed to find the time to make home-made peach Ice-cream for the event.Meeting for the volunteer party were Mr. and Mrs. Pat Boettcher, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Creede, Mrs. Ann Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dreste, Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Hanford, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Kent, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pennington, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Segar, Mr. and Mrs. William Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Feldon Spangler, Mr. and Mrs. Harry A. Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. John Slocum.
