APAVV/RAILHEAD IN TIIK ’80s On Oct 15. 1880, the Utah-Northern narrow gauge railroad established its railhead, pushing into Montana, at Dillon, and the Treasure State was no longer an outpost of civilization. The narrow gauge engine shown here was in use on the road for many years The picture was taken at the Dillon station around 1884. The man leaning out of the engine cab is believed to be Isaiah Cashmore, for many years a resident of Dillon, and one of the first engineers on the Utah-Northern.
