Auction notice for a four-acre land tract with cattle and one horse. Horse named Calliogu My Aveta highlighted. Public sale details include sale location and livestock inventory with titles to items. Disorganized OCR text notes likely bidders and references to vendors and terms of sale.
The text discusses limited powers and funding for local advisory boards tied to the Education Department, urging public support to influence Parliament. It notes the death of Mr. Chadwick and recounts his long local business career, and mentions local magistrates appointments and a police court case. It also covers hospital board concerns and a worm of municipal financial matters, listing various local accounts and a dairy production update.
Disjointed local tidings cover a Benalla court scene with a landowner suit over £6015/6 in arrears, a bakery worker's confession about work during a fire scare, and a public council note on sums claimed. A weathered report recalls a man’s sudden death at Wangaratta hospital, plus a Melbourne fraud case where Lancelot Gubbins faces six months’ hard labor for obtaining money from Arthur Taylor through false promises.
The Benalla Court of General Sessions and County Court will convene tomorrow with Judge George Robey presiding. Defendants include Frank Thomjasu charged with patent fraud, and George Williams and William McCarbon linked to lodged offences. In the County Court, the case of Redding v Bedding proceeds with related accusations. A separate note reports a man’s alleged enticement and assault with a weapon resulting in hospitalization and a water supply disruption in several town districts. The column also includes brief notices on a death sentence appeal, a childbirth, and ongoing public notices.
A fragmentary letter-like piece argues everyday facts rely on local belief and endorsements. It promotes Down's Back or Kidney Pills from Suy's Pharmacy in Sydney for pain relief, claiming wide chemist support and pricing, amid dubious testimonial language.
Wool sales show firm prices for all descriptions with imports and grades across several regions. Buyers, merchants, and producers reported steady inquiries and robust competition at key salerooms including Victoria and Geelong, with top lots achieving strong values despite variability in line quality.
District news from Beechworth reports a major fire destroying grain near the Beechworth and Oxley railway service project area. The blaze damaged paddocks and crops, with property losses including Moore and Dunes paddocks, while local meetings discussed funding and the railway wage reductions.
A Mansfield hall event featured a 17-portrait display honoring soldiers who served in South Africa. The unveiling by Mr. Pike, president of the society, included a view of an obelisk in High Street. Spies and other fears were discussed as portraits were given to honorees in the hall.
Local sessions heard Gilbert and the bench assess a string of offences as a man pleads guilty to robbing workers of gear. A separate report notes factory production and dairy deliveries, plus a hospital fund update and calls for honorary governance. The chaotic mix includes a bush fire in Robinaworphe and several small legal actions.
A travelogue recounts a Tasmanian tour starting with hospitable welcome and a scenic ride by horse and buggy. The writer charts attractions near Launceston and Longford, notes pastoral life, harvest scenes, and a grand Melbourne steeplechase day, ending with a dramatic hotel fire and a return to Melbourne followed by further musical and scenic stops.
