Ancient marriage contract found in Greek papyrus
Royal Museum finds a 311 B C marriage contract in excellent Greek. Herakleides agrees to wed Demetria of Kos with dowry of a thousand drachmas in kind. If vows broken, arbitrators appointed, marriage dissolves, dowry returned and a further thousand drachmas paid. Six witnesses signed. preserved after 2200 years.
