Court Hears Income Tax Returns Case and Fines

At Gowangardie and Katamatite, three defendants faced penalties under the Income Tax Act for failing to file annual income returns for 1902. William Grattan denied tax because he claimed no taxable income and was fined £5. Allan M Lean also fined £5 plus costs of £3 4/3, contending no income due to drought. Rabt. Bulleo received £6 5 in fines with £4 16/6 costs for neglecting to destroy noxious thistles as required by law.

Bible lesson at state school draws record 168 attendance

One hundred fifty circulars were sent to parents asking if their children should attend the weekly Bible lesson at the state school. Ninety replied affirmatively and fifty negatively. A record 168 children attended the Thursday lesson, with the classroom too full to accommodate them.

Clothing found near Strathmerton linked to Hindoo hawkers

In the Goulburn Valley north of Strathmerton, Wm Patterson and Thomas Wall found clothes under a log fence including a turban and braces from a Hindoo hawker.
