Sturgeon Rider of the James River
Richmond tale recalls Martin Hawkins, famed for riding a giant sturgeon on the James River. After a dramatic struggle the fish carried him downstream to shore near Powite, then to the Clivaterhen side. The monster was a three hundred pounder, and Hawkins, later known as the sturgeon rider, died at seventy three near Richmond.
