RAAF Meteor Flies 64 Sorties in Week of Korean Air Operations
Despite poor weather RAAF Meteor jets from No 77 Interceptor Fighter Squadron completed 64 sorties in the first week after resuming Korean hostilities. Four missions were flown in the Pyongyang area and along the Yalu River, with frequent MIG encounters in what was called MIG Alley. Several missions were canceled due to visibility and heavy rain, while pilots awaited contact with enemy fighters and used downtime for navigational and training flights. Squadron leaders cited the week as valuable for learning to cooperate under potential combat conditions.
