A nine year polio patient who spent years in Melbourne hospital after contracting the disease earlier won the district school championship sash at Goorambat. The 11 year old, still in treatment, inspired by determination, ran for her school from her first day back and impressed teachers and pupils with her brave spirit. The crowd cheered as she received heartfelt congratulations.
The Belle of Belles, Mix Val Lebner from Wangaratta, topped the hospital ball pageant with an orchid pink satin gown and pearl tiara. Melbourne judges toured the event, prizes valued near £70 were announced, and hospital fundraising exceeded last year by £109, with over £30,000 raised during the carnival under President Mr. Evans.
