Cricket Association Formed at Renalla

A new cricket association formed at Renalla with representatives from Federal tie, Meat House, Geary and local schools. Aimed at a junior under 15 league starting October 30, with six town teams and a sub committee to assign players for morning play sessions from 9:30 to 12:00. President Mr Cleary and secretaries were elected and plans call for listing all intending players before team selection.

Miss Frances Cameron Belle of N E Victoria from Melbourne led a crowd of belles chosen by judges Mr and Mrs Cooper and Miss Howarth. Presented with orchids and a Sun sash she walked to the balcony amid applause as Master of Ceremonies P Connelly announced her, with thanks to Carnival Committee and supporters.

Fatal Car Smash on Highway in Melbourne Suburbs

A Ford sedan rolled several times on the Hume Highway at 8 4m today causing fatal injuries to Mrs Mary Kendrick of 44 Howe Crescent South Melbourne. Her husband Whomne Kendrick, driver, sustained injuries and was admitted to Memorial Hospital. The Melbourne to Sydney bound roadway crash was believed caused by a front tyre blowout near Home Nicholson's Slaughter Yards.

A fisherman, chased by a bull during a fishing trip, sought safety in a tree. He remained calm and even brewed a drink from his bag, finding comfort on a branch. After a time, he descended and continued his day, while authorities noted the unusual encounter.

Preferred Curlew to Duck Case Heard by Inspector

An inspector from Ube Fisheries and Game Department, Mr Donald McLeod, presented George Jones of Gowangardie at Benalla. Jones pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing a curlew on a paddock while a witness testified the defendant approached and claimed to have killed the bird, with a verdict and fines discussed.

Fought Conductor on Train in Melbourne Night Incident

In a Melbourne petty sessions court Grey appeared on four charges arising from an incident aboard a train. He allegedly drank heavily, assaulted Hawke a guard, and refused to show a ticket, leading to a scuffle as the door was shut. Witnesses described blows and a struggle over a ticket as Grey claimed drunkenness and domestic troubles.
