In a case at Seana to-day a man from 38 Barty Recalls faced a charge of street betting. He admitted he entered a hotel parlour, drank, and later claimed a bet had been placed. The scene shifted to a bar where a bet was allegedly laid against him. The magistrate, Mr Bell, ordered a fine of £8 19s with one month imprisonment in default.
On Sunday in the Court of Petty Weeday a person named Detong was charged with trespass on hotel premises. The defendant pleaded guilty as the court heard testimony about occupancy and surrounding events.
Michael Owen Callahan and John Stile were each fined £1 at the Court of Petty Sessions after pleading guilty to having liquor near the Memorial Hall during a December 5 dance. Witnesses testified Stile held a bottle, then hid it as police approached, with Callahan admitting receiving alcohol from the bottle. The magistrate noted a dance is no place to drink.
Alan McKenzie pleaded guilty at Court of Petty Sessions to dumping rubbish on Roc Road outside the Shire Council issue. Sergeant Healey gave evidence recalling 3 December events. McKenzie was fined and ordered to pay costs, with the case noting rubbish swept from a gate area.
Griffiths fined 2 pounds for obstructing by parking a car at a sharp angle with rear 10 feet from the line and no evidence of attachment. James D. Westwood fined 10 pounds for speeding between 40 and 56 mph and cutting the corner when turning from Bridge to Smythe. Geoffrey John Davey fined 5 pounds for operating without a permit in Victoria.
