Racing Club objects to deputy stipendiary at Benalla meeting

Benalla Racing Club objects to the present deputy steward Mr Woodfine and contemplates seeking a different stipendiary. At the association meeting, members discuss appointing their own stipendiary if required and instruct their delegate to seek vacant Association official positions. Adjustments Agreed on Soldiers Memorial Wording

Dr Talochino reported changes to the Soldiers Memorial inscription at the Gardens entrance. Shire secretary Bates and RBL secretary F Bigmore approved, Swain to proceed with leading existing lettering £228, new lettering £860, cleaning £10, with minor price tweaks possible and the town officials to confirm.

Bettings slips found at Doherty premises lead to fines in Benalla Court

John Joseph Doherty was found guilty at Benalla Court this morning for unlawful use of his premises for betting on August 5. He received a £3 fine with £2 14s 6d costs after police raided the premises and found betting slips. £57 9s was ordered forfeited from his possession and £20 claimed as his.

St James to Apply for Open Championship

The Borough Council agreed to provide information to the State Development Committee on tourist facilities. The town clerk Mr Latch will complete a questionnaire. St James Coursing Club plans to apply to host the Victorian Open Championship next year with 2150 added money.
