The Gandelo Club opened its jubilee year at Ka meruka with a well attended Puppy Stakes under humane conditions. Of 21 puppies, four from Limited Company Royal Crown won their first round and progressed to the finals. Waitawhile, owned by Candela and Bega, surged to victory with a late burst, drawing praise for A. Q. Manns. Judges Wren and Gordon led a smooth, close program as betting on the ground surged.
Land Co. held a brief lead but faced a bold turn, then recovered to win as Dark Morning and Whitawhile battled in a tense finish. The race saw late action with Odds shifting from three to two to one as the contenders pressed to the line.
The Mumbulla Shire Council met Friday with reports from the engineer sanitary inspector and clerk.
