Notice from Battleford area families reports multiple World War I casualties. Bernard Johnson of the 96th Highlanders is killed in action, a popular local youth born in Battleford. Other soldiers mentioned include Pte. Cameron of the 232nd battalion, Pte. Arthur C. Thompson, a Can. Forestry battalion member, and Lieut. Stone formerly of Breaslayor.
After Monday’s nomination Battleford constituency sees three candidates for federal honors A Champagne Win-the-War candidate H O Wright Senlac and G G A Gourley Landis aligned with Laurier Gourley a local farmer was not a late entrant no Unity independent candidate was nominated as planned by anti conscription Liberals.
H O Wright of Senlac chosen as Unionist candidate for Battleford after a convention in Wilkie. Other nominees were J J Bowlan Macklin W H Lillwall Wilkie W S Wesson Waseca and R James Speers Wilkie. Wright led a tight final ballot. Unsuccessful rivals pledged support to Wright as the party seeks unity.
North Battleford faces a three cornered race with two Unionists and a Laurier Liberal. Charles Commerford was nominated on Saturday, as voters learn of delays in mail deliveries and a shift from horse carriages to automobiles for rail shipments.
The Prongua district notes a mild November with farmers finishing haying and fencing work. A public meeting elected Geo Truscott and Jus Bridge as delegates for Wilkie and the Victory Loan committee planned canvassing in the district. John Dillaugh returns from Rochester, and a Red Cross fundraiser is being organized with local societies expected to subscribe. A ratepayers meeting on November 28 will hear Reeve Scott and Councillor Aitchison report district work.
