Senator Prince's Daughter Wed in Quiet Home Ceremony

On Saturday June 6 at Senator and Mrs Prince's home, their daughter Louisa married Arthur W Devel formerly assistant engineer of the G T P. The ceremony was performed by Rev Father Maurey with a blue charmeuse suit, Paris gown, and wedding bouquet. A toast followed and the couple departed for a brief honeymoon at Banff.

Wreck Near Kamsack Kills Three on Westbound Express

Three killed and four injured after a head on collision near Kamsack between an eastbound express and a fast freight. Express Engin Arnold and Mail Clerk Train and Express Messenger Donaldson die. The collision tears the express cars and the freight cars apart on a curve. Four crew members injured while passengers escape.

Rural Municipality meeting orders road work and new officers

The Battle River No. 438 council met in Battleford on June 6 1911 with Reeve Scott and six councillors. Actions included brashing roads sections 7 18 43 16 and 31 32 44 18, reviewing Eight Mile Lake access, negotiating road diversions, and considering tax work for Wilkie trell. A Court of Revision for 1914 assessments was set for July 4 with several motions on road compensation and a new pound keeper to manage division three.

Coal Prospect Near Battleford Spurred by Oil Hunt

Excitement over oil prospects leads to coal discoveries along the Battle River near Battleford. Coal leases covering 2,983 acres were filed, with A. B. White and the Dubaimes as principal interests. A sample shows soft coal near the surface and a nearby tar sand sample hints at oil. A syndicate paid 1000 for land leases, and total leases tapped so far total 5000.

Bridge Approaches Improved West of Town

The Battle river bridge near Prongua aids farmers by easing access from the river valley to the hill, with the east side road now level into town. A new graded road will link the Tramping Lake trail to the Prongua road, saving distance for Cleveland district farmers. Hog buyers in Battleford post a June 22 23 deadline for hogs at market.

Bull Again Proves Dangerous Animal

Miss Edith Creutt aged 15 of Biggar narrowly escaped serious harm when a cow herd bull charged the horse she rode on the way home last Friday. The animal bolted the horse causing her to be thrown and endure a severe ankle injury, though she crawled to safety despite bruises.

Death by suicide reported near Wilkie Saskatchewan

Swede Martin Nymlon aged man of the Wilkie area fatally shot himself at his brother’s residence in Atlanaic after a breakfast visit. He left a wife and no clear motive was found by the coroners’ jury.

Weather Turns Cold but Picnic Draws Crowd at Plowing Match

Bad weather failed to dampen the W. E. J. Grain Growers association plowing match and horse show. John Bolton won the Champagne cup and Merchants' Bank shield for the third consecutive time. Awards went to D. Creaver E. McCarthy C. Truscott and R. Phelps with numerous horse show prizes across age classes and pony races. Attendance from town was limited by rain and wind but farming districts brought strong turnout.

Body of Miss Hayes Found in Dominion

Staff Captain Emma Hayes of Toronto was identified last night by a Salvation Army nurse from Winnipeg after a search by a twelve man party from western Canada. The body had lain in shed No. 27’s temporary morgue since Sunday unrecognized by army officials. A nurse from Grace Hospital Winnipeg and James Balfour of Regina aided identification with a scar from an operation.

Boy Drowns in Battle River Near Lashburn

Freddie Hlopper, 14, died while herding cattle along the Battle River near Lashburn. He had lived with his sister Mrs John Churn in Lilydale district for two years. A search party found tracks to the river bank but no body as of press time.
