The British ship Tuscana with 2179 American soldiers was torpedoed and landed in two batches on the Irish coast. losses may be lower than figures suggest. A Canadian railway builders battalion train was captured by Germans. escapes unknown. A St Vitals school card party is planned Monday evening with refreshments. Charlie Kim, a famed Oriental restaurateur, left town abruptly. Ladies may announce visitors at home to aid The Press and show courtesy.
Two leading members of the Sweet Grass band of Indians died recently. Sidney Fineday passed on Monday January 28 and Mrs John Finneday on Saturday February 2 from tubercular trouble. Canon Matheson conducted the burial services at the reserve. Mrs Jula Piveday has a brother Harry Higgins serving with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in France. He has seen trench fighting and expects to go over again any day. He rose from sergeant to lance corporal as he prepares for another front.
Council and Board of Trade plan to send A. Champagne and E. H. White to Ottawa to learn CPR and GTP intentions on entering Battleford. They will also press for a new post office Dominion Lands office and an immigration hall. George Thompson sold the Albion hotel to Charles Angle of Winnipeg. A real estate upturn is noted. Alberta bill aims to regulate liquor sales via government dispensaries. D Langfield from the Registry office named deputy clerk of the court. Harry K Thaw was acquitted of murder of Stanford White.
The 1918 letter from Premier Sir Robert L. Borden to A Champagne expresses deep appreciation for Champagne’s role in the salad campaign and support of the Union Government in Western Canada. Borden credits disinterested conduct and party unity, offering warm year end wishes.

Monday’s council meeting attended by Mayor Drew and Councillors Boughey Law Galliday and Parry approved routine business. The secretary was instructed to urge three local School Boards to use the Central school building for classrooms and to request Boy Scouts and Girl Guides officers about youth gardening as patriotism. Staff were asked to notify owners with suitable lots to list them with the town secretary.

Notice warns that cutting or removing wood from the west half of section 15 in township 43 18 is strictly prohibited and offenders will be prosecuted. Names Chas Draper and others are cited in the notice.
