Canadian voters overwhelming endorse the Union Government policy with broad majorities in western provinces. Saskatchewan swings solid Union, North Battleford defies odds with Comerford retention likely, while Calgary and Alberta show mixed results and soldier vote remains pending after the New Year.
The Ontario case before Central Appeal Judge Duff ends with an exemption for W H Rown tree’s son W J Rowntree, a 7 year farm hand on a 150 acre Weston area farm. Duff rules no diminishment in agricultural production and that essential farm labor must be kept at home. Ottawa, December 8, 1917.
The Grain Growers' Association met in Bowlhouse last Wednesday despite a cold spell. Jim Bridge reported on resolutions from the North Batueford convention, and officers for 1918 were elected including President Geo Nelson and Vice President Harry Nelson. The group thanked Geo Truscott for five years of service. Next meetings shift to every 2nd Saturday after May 20. A Christmas tree and concert were planned for Xmas Eve at 6 PM.
The annual Chetree linked to Gardiner Parish Church occurs at 7.30 pm Friday at the church. Lablady School members prepared a varied program in keeping with Christian service. Santa Claus is expected to appear during the evening. No admission fee. an offering will be taken.
Incomplete results show H. O. Wright the Astroist candidate elected by a large margin in Battleford riding. Wright totals reach 263 to Gourlay 77 across three Battleford polls, a majority near 191. Nearby polls in surrounding towns are listed.
