Red Cross picnic a success and fundraising gain

The Red Cross district report the first Gralla Growers associative picnic at the Red Cross school on July 26 with fine weather and strong turnout. Weekend events included prize raffling a sheep donation by Mr Bartlett SDragg, free supper, a box collection, and dancing. The note mentions 180 shares subscribed for a Charlton elevator project and ongoing plans to engage farmers for the scheme.

Sheriff Ridington Re-elected Secretary at Provincial Sheriffs Meet

Sheriff Ridington attended the provincial sheriffs convention in Saskatoon this week and was re elected secretary. He also served as a judge in the automobile parade.

Civic Half Holiday Declared For August 7

The council approved a civic half holiday for Wednesday afternoon August 7. A report on the Battle River sewerage disposal plant found foundations ruined by last spring’s ice jam and recommended stopping the outlet and removing the dam. A power contract with F L Bishop prompted debate with no decision. Fortnightly summer meetings were set, and thanks were sent to North Battleford City Council for municipal convention cooperation.

New School District to Be Formed in Local Area

A public meeting at W. A. Fredericksen’s home on July 26 1917 decided to form a school district west of the Saskatchewan river east of the Battle river and covering specified section lines. Elected for terms of one to three years were Marugg Prince and Speers. five names were chosen for ministerial submission.

A large furniture sale drew many locals, and several district residents made weekend trips.
