The Boer Envoys Visit and McKeggie Returns Home
J H McKeggie came back from a month in Atlantic City and Washington in better health. In Washington he stayed at the same hotel as the Boers, whose mission drew a small crowd and mixed impressions. Descriptions label Wessels as tall with a black beard, Wolmarans as shorter and greasy-looking, and Fischer as medium height with reddish hair and notable English. McKeggie’s strong antipathy toward their errand kept him from attending their reception.
