A forged W Taylor cheque caused George Livingstone to lose thirty dollars after a stranger presented the note at his store. The saboteur, described as about five feet tall with a dark mustache, fled and remains at large. Similar attempt occurred at J C Irwin’s store prior to six o’clock. Clerk John Clayton sensed trouble, called Mr Taylor, and learned signatures were forged. Police informed. suspect still at large. Also reported death of Mrs. James Scott after a long illness. funeral held at Clapperton Street with Rev J J Redditt officiating. several relatives noted among attendees.

A solemn high mass of requiem was offered for the soul of the late Ambrose P. Hinds at St Patrick's church this morning. A full male choir and many friends including Knights of Columbus attended. Miss Agnes Hinds and Mr. G. Hinds, sister and brother of the deceased, were present, arriving from Barzie Senator. Gowan on Temperance spoke in the Senate on Wednesday, urging education as the remedy for drunkenness and opposing Prohibitive laws without public support. he cited the Gothenberg system as not ideal, stressing education to deter crime.
Rod McRae of Alliston will serve two years at Central Prison after pleading guilty to burglary and related offenses. He previously fled jail after stealing $250 from an Essa farmer and fled to the United States before returning to Canada for trial.
The South Ward school project discussed by the Property and Supply Committee includes inviting architects to submit plans and specifications for a new South Ward school with heating ventilation and sanitary systems. An estimated cost is to be presented by June 9 and plans become board property only if a tender is satisfactory.
