James Farewell known as J E Farewell appeared before Judge Vance charged with acting as a bogus colonel for patriotic funds. He pleaded not guilty and the trial was set for January 14. Crown Attorney Cotter challenged his record as unfavorable. A second case, Taylor versus Woon, involved a farmer whose mare died after being moved from a livery barn.
