Cowan Repeats Honor on Masonic Board for Fourteenth Year

R. W. Bro. Alexander Cowan is elected for the fourteenth consecutive year to a seat on the Board of General Purposes of the Grand Lodge. He also serves as chairman of the committee on Grievances and Appeals and has held numerous Masonry offices in Barrie and the Georgian District since joining Corinthian Lodge in 1895.

Water Supply Expanded by New Wells at Humber Bay

The town’s water supply rose with a new strike yielding about 300 gallons per minute or 400,000 gallons daily. Drillers Huffman and Murray will repair three old wells while piping from the two new wells proceeds to storage by early next week.

Knock Trounces Alliston 16 to 7 in South Simcoe league

Mac Boyd led Knock with nine points as they surprised Alliston with a 16 7 win on Friday. Cliff Lockhart pitched well, fanning five, holding Alliston scoreless in the last four frames while Knock added eight runs. Manager Boyd was knocked out of the game by a pitched ball and replaced by Adams. Continued on page 16.

Picnic Draws Large Crowd for United Farmers in North Simcoe

A big audience gathered at Eber hardt's Grove Wasaga Beach last Friday for the United Farmers annual picnic for North Simcoe riding. G H Murdoch declared the crowd a sign of renewed strength and vowed a larger group at Ottawa in the next elections. A J F Sullivan urged crushing big interests when in power and praised the party's continued influence despite defeat.

Hon. E C Drury urged farmers to investigate the leadership of the U F O and its allied bodies alleging interlocking directors keep control within themselves. He called for a broad, inclusive political party and argued the Progressive movement should win support from all classes and regions.

Walter N Duff Named District Deputy Grand Master

W Bro Walter N Duff appointed District Deputy Grand Master for the district. Duff rose rapidly in Masonry, starting Kerr Lodge in 1910, becoming W M in 1913, joining Scottish Rite in 1914, reaching 33rd degree in 1921. He has held multiple lodge roles and chaired ritual and property committees. He also leads Masonry Temple projects and served as a clerk at GTR Office Allandale. Duff active in hockey curling baseball and local civic groups.

Barrie Brigade Wins First Parade Prize in Bracebridge

Barrie Fire Brigade in blue uniforms won first prize for best dressed brigade and physique at the Northern Volunteer Firemen's Association tournament in Bracebridge plus all foot race prizes. Over 5000 witnessed the event. total proceeds were $1977. Barrie and Orillia traveled by special train. Gravenhurst and Orillia bands performed.

Lower School Exam Results Highlight Promotion by Department

The May exam list shows lower school students who failed in some subjects but passed the department set June tests. Few students moved on. emphasis remains on steady year long effort over last minute cramming. First Form names include Annie Avison and Kathleen Irish among others. Second Form lists Grace Goring and Verna Smythe with physical and art subjects noted.

Protest Thrown Out Over Dalston Against Stoddart

At the Oro Football League executive meeting in Town Hall Friday night Dalston’s protest against Guthrie playing Stoddart was rejected. President Angus Cameron chaired with all clubs present. The protest required a cash or equivalent, Dalston had a cheque misvalued by the Craighurst bank and deemed not legal tender, so the motion to dismiss it was adopted. A. B. Coutts protested on Dalston’s behalf.

Barrie advances to South Simcoe playoff with seventh straight win

Barrie baseball clinches playoff spot by defeating Knock 12 to 5, besting opponents in a seventh consecutive victory. Alliston still has four games left risking a three way tie if they win all, or elimination if any loss occurs. Emms and Wright starred in the field and at bat with key sacrifices and solid defense.

Illicit still case ends in $200 fine in police court

Levi Tracey of Minesing pleaded guilty in a Wasaga Beach police court after a search found a worm still and barrel of mash. He admitted to making liquor to pay debts, saying he was an amateur and had limited sales. He was fined $200 and costs 218 with a month to pay.

Sedan Drops Ten Feet in Culvert Crash Near Oro

A sedan carrying four people slid off a culvert on Ridge Road near the Raikes homestead in Oro Saturday morning. One woman sustained non serious injuries from glass and wounds requiring stitches. the others escaped with minor shaking. The Toronto owners returned the damaged car to the city.
