Special Council Moves On By Law Exemption Debate
A special council meeting held Monday debated exemptions under The Consolidated Assessment Act 1892 section 7e. The by law, prepared and passed, exempts the McCarthy farm wholly from street watering and one fourth for street lighting. Councillors argued for broader exemptions.

Aurora Letter and Observations From Barrie Neighboring July 1893
The editor prints a letter from Dr. Veeder of Lyops New York about a well defined auroral ribbon crossing the sky from east to west. Reports reach Utah of red hues and asks for Atlantic shore and western observers to describe the eastern extension and global encirclement. Dr Veeder promises more notes. He notes hashes and flickers lasting till midnight with reflections under southern clouds and streamers wide apart. A strong light extended over much of the sky and clouds softened star and sky color until sunrise. From Barrie July 20 1893.

Collegiate Institute Board Holds Monday Trustees Meeting
The Collegiate Institute Trustees met Monday evening to review three Science Master applications, accept Minns of Belleville for the post, and consider Commercial Master candidates with a special committee to study. They reviewed estimates needing at least 32000 from the Town Council plus 500 for permanent improvements, and passed a motion to collect overdue funds and allow three annual payments. The board also discussed late exam finances, praised Mr Hallett’s inspector work, and accepted Fletcher’s tender for repairs and flooring before adjourning.

On Thursday July 27 a telegram informed the McMaster family that George McMaster died suddenly from a stroke or paralysis. His son Thomas moved the remains to Waverley where interment occurred at the Methodist burial ground. The notice extends sympathy to the relatives in their bereavement.
