Surrey Roads General Meeting at Kennington July Third

Gourlay Defiant Plea From Prison In Commons Row

A series of letters and petitions from Robert Gourlay protest his confinement in the Prison Room of the House of Commons and later in the House of Correction. He denounces the treatment as cruel and insists doctors’ certs of insanity are unfounded. Man charged with parish support after wife deserts family

John Mulsood a master bricklayer from Hammersmith faced the magistrate over accusations he left his wife and three children to be maintained by the parish. The wife swore he had failed to provide beyond an initial year, while he argued the marriage dissolved, she drank heavily, sold beds, and sought service, leading to a split and a separation deed. He warned he would rather end his own life than fund her “bastards.”

ASCOT HEATH RACES FOURTH DAY JUNE 18

On Ascot Heath the fourth day of racing saw His Majesty welcomed with acclamation on arrival and departure. The card featured the Workingham Stakes for three year olds and up, the Duke of York's Orion, and a 10 sovereigns handicap sweepstakes with 30 added from the Racing Fund, won by Sharper ridden by Mr. Messer's colt. Heats over one mile tested pace with Eden Monimia Fatima and Whisker among entrants.
