Balloon ascent ends in crash near Lady Stapleton Park
The ascent of Mr Green and Mr Sparrow in a balloon began at one pm but was delayed by a pole accident. After reaching two miles altitude, a violent descent near Nettlebed caused Mr Sparrow to fall and the craft to entangle in trees. Rescued by dozen workers at Stapleton Park, the balloon was secured and the aeronauts offered refreshments. Crowd funding supported viewing the spectacle and Oxford-bound plans remained.

Long Wool Trade Meeting at Leeds Voices Export Fight
A Leeds gathering of merchants and woollen manufacturers, chaired by George Bankes, urged Parliament to resist free export of long wool. Speakers warned that duty free export would cripple the worsted trade, labor, and capital, as foreign rivals would undercut English wool products. Resolutions were sent to Earl of Harewood and county MPs. Similar resolutions were adopted at Bradford on Monday.
